More than 10,000 worshippers attended the annual lecture of the Al Haqdeen International Islamic Centre (AHIIC) at the Lekan Salami Stadium in Ibadan, Oyo State, where Islamic clerics called for repentance, honesty and divine guidance to address Nigeria’s challenges.
The two-day event brought together Islamic scholars, dignitaries and worshippers from within and outside Oyo State for lectures, Qur’an recitations, remembrance of God and prayers for the country.
The programme was held under the theme, “Isokale Oro Olohun Si Orile Aye Paapa Si Orilede Nigeria”, translated as “Divine Message to Mankind: Mercy, Hope and Guidance for Nigeria”.
The founder of AHIIC, Fhodilatu Shaykh Al Khalifah Ahmad Dhikrullah, also known as Gaozu Zaman Kubtuh Robban, said the gathering was organised to promote Islamic teachings, encourage good conduct and discourage wrongdoing.
He said the lectures and prayers were timely given Nigeria’s economic, political and security challenges, adding that spiritual guidance was important for peace and national development.
Speaking on the state of the country, Shaykh Dhikrullah urged Nigerians, particularly those in positions of power and influence, to follow Islamic teachings in their personal lives and public responsibilities.
He said the tolerance of wrongdoing had contributed to the spread of corruption, bribery, fraud and mistrust in society.
The cleric called on Nigerians to repent and embrace honesty and good conduct to improve the lives of citizens.
The first-day lecture was delivered by Shaykh Sheriffdeen Muhally, who spoke on the virtues and rewards of leaving one’s home to listen to Islamic teachings.
On the second day, Shaykh Dr Saheed Yusuf urged people who had been blessed by God to support Islamic activities and contribute to the development of the country.o
The gathering also featured recitations of Suratul Kahf, Yasin, Mulk, Rahman and Suratul Waqi’ah, alongside Khatmah.
The annual lecture is organised by AHIIC, an Islamic organisation based in Ibadan with branches in other locations. The event moves between states and has also been held outside Nigeria.
