The Religion Journalism Foundation sprang to existence in 2024 to bridge a critical gap that African newsrooms have ignored for many decades. Religion heavily influences every aspect of our social, democratic, and economic constructs. It shapes how people vote during elections, the economic choices they make, and their social engagements. Yet, African newsrooms have failed to give it the attention it deserves or train their journalists to cover religion responsibly.
That is why we exist as both a newsroom in Nigeria and a center for religion journalism innovation in Africa. We see the important journalism we do as desperately needed RIGHT NOW, and we devote resources and attention to showing the interplay between religion and other components of life.

We envision a Nigeria and Africa where the intersection of religion and civic and social engagements is sufficiently understood, carefully discussed, and accurately reported, fostering understanding and accountability across religious and secular divides.
