Enemies of Islam could exploit Masussuka’s killing to cause confusion — Gumi

Prominent Islamic scholar Sheikh Ahmad Gumi has suggested that enemies of Islam could exploit the killing of Katsina-based cleric Sheikh Yahaya Masussuka to create confusion and discord among Muslims.

Gumi made the statement on his verified social media account hours after Masussuka was killed alongside another man in Katsina State, urging the public to remain calm and allow the authorities to take appropriate action.

Describing the killing as a serious wrongdoing, the scholar warned that the incident could trigger fitina, an Arabic term referring to discord, strife or turmoil within a community.

“Enemies of Islam may do this to create confusion within the Muslim community.” He said.

He did not identify any individuals or groups as responsible for the killing or provide evidence linking the attack to people hostile to Islam.

Gumi also cited verse 63 of Surah An-Nur in the Qur’an, which warns against disobeying Allah’s commands and the consequences that may follow.

He further referenced verse 83 of Surah An-Nisa, which advises Muslims to refer security-related matters to the appropriate authorities rather than spread information without proper consideration.

Using the verses to support his appeal, Gumi urged the public not to panic over the incident and to allow the authorities to take the necessary steps.

Sheikh Masussuka’s killing has raised questions about the identity and motives of the attackers. However, the circumstances surrounding the attack and the identities of those responsible remain subject to investigation.

Gumi concluded his message with a prayer for peace and for God to protect the Muslim community from discord.
