An Islamic cleric, Sheikh Yahaya Ibrahim Masussuka, and a visitor identified as Malam Adamu have been killed in an attack by suspected gunmen in Dutsin-Ma, Katsina State.
The attack occurred at the entrance to Masussuka’s residence on Monday, October 26, according to local media reports. The assailants reportedly arrived on a motorcycle and shot the cleric and his visitor.
The Katsina State Police Command has confirmed the killings of the cleric and his visitor. However, details about the motive for the attack and the identities of the assailants remain unclear, while investigations are ongoing.
Masussuka was preparing to host a national peace and unity gathering scheduled for October 31 at Muhammadu Dikko Stadium in Katsina.
The event, organised by his Qur’anic Believers Harmony for Peace Initiative, was expected to bring Nigerians together to pray for peace, security and violence-free elections.
Earlier in October, the Katsina State Commissioner of Police, Ali U. Fagge, had met with Masussuka and pledged police support for the gathering.
